I have also tried a suggestion to add credentials in Control Panel Windows Credential Manager but found those I added to both the Windows and Generic areas were removed after a restart. But from the number of hits this page still gets it seems like this is still an ongoing problem for a LOT of people.
December 12th, I did the correct fix, switched back over to Thuderbird. No notices. Works great. Yes of course. Or even OSX. But it would be easier to just use a better e-mail app instead.
